Myanmar in Sound

In this aural ethnography undertaken during a two-week stay (December 2015) in Myanmar, we invite listeners to join us on a sound walk through Mandalay, the second largest city and former royal capital, as well as Bagan, an ancient city and archeological area southwest of Mandalay on the eastern banks of the Ayeyarwady River.

The majority of the field recordings in this aural ethnography were collected as part of a project titled, "Story Glory," inspired by StoryCorps, at the 2016 Vermont Annual Rainbow Gathering near the town of Mt. Tabor. Story Glory served as a studio recording camp at Rainbow, offering space for people to come share songs, stories, poems, rants, rambles, and other what nots, which have been compiled into this listening experience.  Also, included are audio snippets of the environment such as birds, water, and rain, linking the space between songs, soundbites, and poems.
